AtlanChim Pharma was founded in May 2004! Twenty years later, and over 2,000 contracts completed, we have our favorite reagents. For instance, we like to use Dess-Martin periodinane (DMP), also known as 1,1-dihydro-1,1,1-triacetoxy-1,2-benziodoxol-3-(1H)-one, for the oxidation of primary alcohols to aldehydes. [1] Nevertheless, we have observed some surprising side reactions, particularly in some cases with substrates containing a 1,2-diol motif. This behavior of DMP illustrated in the Scheme below, with an example taken from the literature [2], has been rarely reported. [3]
